The Bay of Islands is a great add-on and should not be missed if time permits. From Auckland, you will be whisked away to the Northland region, regarded as the birthplace of New Zealand as we know it today. Your base is Paihia, a seaside town nestled on the shores of a spectacular National Maritime Park. Visit Cape Reinga, the northernmost point of New Zealand. Learn more of the nation’s early history with a visit to historic Russell and the culturally significant Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Cruise the bay to Cape Brett to see the famous ‘Hole in the Rock’. Return to Auckland by scenic flight.

Leaving your hotel this morning, travel by coach across the Harbour Bridge and journey through the northern suburbs of Auckland with the beachside homes of the Hibiscus Coast to the east and the bush-covered Waitakere Ranges out to the west. Enjoy spectacular scenery of native forests and sub-tropical bush as you make your way to Paihia in the Bay of Islands, a seaside town nestled on the foreshore of this National Maritime Park. On arrival, visit the historic Waitangi Treaty House.
You will be collected from your hotel this morning and transferred to the airport to join your flight to Cape Reinga. Fly over Northlands’ spectacular harbours and across some beautiful beaches such as Doubtless Bay and the famous Ninety Mile Beach. On arrival at the airfield, enjoy a two and a half hour tour around the top of New Zealand taking in the famous Cape Reinga Lighthouse where the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean meet, Tapotupotu Bay and also the Te Paki quicksand stream with its giant sand dunes. The return flight back to the Bay of Islands includes some of the most spectacular coastal scenery Northland has to offer including Great Exhibition Bay with its pure white silica sand and crystal clear waters visible only by air.
After a leisurely breakfast, join your cruise out to the Cape Brett Peninsula and the famous ‘Hole in the Rock’. Stop off at picturesque Urupukapuka Island and relax on the beach. On your return, disembark at the historic village of Russell with time to wander and soak in the atmosphere before returning back to Paihia later in the day by ferry.
Free time this morning to relax or enjoy some last minute sightseeing before your transfer to the airport to board your 40 minute scenic scheduled flight back to the City of Sails, Auckland.
