“Haere Mai”, welcome to New Zealand’s North Island. Your rental car will be ready and waiting, so you can get started on your adventure right away. We recommend visiting the Sky Tower to take in the sprawling city from 220 metres above. For a unique dining experience, you may wish to stay for a meal in the rotating Orbit Restaurant.

Depart Auckland this morning and make your way north. Travel through farmland and forest, Warkworth and Wellsford. Drive across to the west coast and continue north until you reach Omapere in the Hokianga region. Tonight, learn about the Maori history of the Waipoua Forest whilst on your Footprints Waipoua Twilight Encounter. Stand up close to the largest living Kauri trees including the Tane Mahuta known as ‘the Lord of the Forest’.

Today, cross from the west coast to the east coast and arrive at the Bay of Islands, a region that is made up of 144 islands. On arrival into Paihia, spend the afternoon meandering around the little village or visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Tonight, we suggest an entertaining evening aboard Darryl’s Dinner Cruise whilst cruising past the Haruru Falls.

Take the opportunity to enjoy a boat ride to the Hole in the Rock this morning. Cruise past the islands dotted throughout the bay and keep an eye out for dolphins, whales and other marine life. Excitement grows as you pass through the Hole in the Rock and into the majestic Grand Cathedral Cave. This trip includes a stopover on beautiful Urupukapuka Island, a pest-free recreation reserve with numerous scenic walks and an unspoiled beach.

Depart Paihia this morning and drive south back to Auckland before heading on south to Thames then along the Coromandel Peninsula. This area is known for its natural beauty including rainforests and golden beaches.

Today drive around the picturesque Coromandel Peninsula. There are many places to stop along the way including the famous Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach, where you can dig your own hot pools in the sand.

Today is for exploring Rotorua. We suggest a visit to Agrodome for a unique farm experience, a ride on the gondola up Mt Ngongotaha for extensive views over the city and lake or a visit to Te Puia with its geysers and bubbling mud pools. This evening enjoy a cultural performance at Mitai Maori Village along with a delicious hangi meal.

This morning head south to Taupo. We recommend stopping at the Huka Falls to watch the roaring waters rushing through the narrow gorge. Continue on to Napier where you have the afternoon to explore the Art Deco city centre. To see all the sites of interest and learn about the city’s rich history from an experienced guide, take a tour in a vintage car or a 1 ½ hour evening walk.

Bid farewell to Napier and head south to our nation’s capital city. You may like to stop for a tour of the Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka or visit one of the local wineries in the Martinborough wine region.

Spend today exploring Wellington until you have to say farewell as you return your rental vehicle to Wellington Airport, before boarding your onward flight or return flight.
